Professional organizer, organizing consultant and personal organizer are interchangeable terms in the relatively new, exploding field of organizing. Many people are unaware that help from an organizing consultant is available to get organized at work and home -- to conquer out-of-control clutter, paper, time, space and tasks, and create order. Home staging is another relatively new profession. Home staging specifically prepares a house for sale to sell faster and for more money than comparable unstaged homes, by appealing to the broadest range of buyers. Seeing from the buyers' perspective, aesthetic recommendations to enhance value are provided after a thorough cosmetic evaluation of your home, inside and out, is made. The purpose is to show your house to its fullest advantage and put more money in your pocket. Working together, we decide and/or implement the changes to make. An Organized ApproachSM provides organizing services, to get your life at work and home in order so there is more time and money for what's important to you, and home staging services. (See the Home Staging page for more information.)
Does "I know it's around here...somewhere" sound too familiar? Do you feel overwhelmed by clutter, lack of organization and order, and have too many things to do? Do you race from one activity to the next yet feel that you never accomplish enough? Do you think organized people inherited a special gene? They didn't. If you have ineffective organizational skills, most likely it means that you were not taught properly or at all. Anyone can learn to get organized with proper training! An Organized ApproachSM will show you how to get and remain organized.
What is a professional organizer/personal organizer/organizing consultant? Basically, it's someone with the experience, skills and ability to organize others and teach them how to maintain the results. The field includes consultants, coaches, speakers, trainers, authors and manufacturers of organizing products. An important credential is membership in the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO). As a NAPO Golden Circle member, An Organized ApproachSM adheres to its principles and Code of Ethics.
What is being organized? Basically it is the consistent ability to find what you need when you need it and get things done on time. Whether at work or home, challenges with managing clutter, paper, time, space and/or tasks must be overcome to get organized. Organized people learned the systems, skills and tools that work well for them, changed negative behaviors and habits, and scheduled time for maintenance. A common misperception is that neat people are organized and messy people are disorganized. While generally that is true, the opposite also may be true. Some neat people can't find anything or get tasks done on time (they're just neat), and some messy people can find everything and complete tasks on time (they're just messy). Organization does not look the same for everyone. Some people prefer a clutter-free appearance while others find comfort when surrounded by a certain amount of their things. Whatever your preference, your style will be respected.
Who is affected by disorganization? People of any age, race, income bracket, intellect, educational background and level of society. There are many successful, highly intelligent people who unwittingly limit their abilities.
Who are your clients? Mostly men and women in their 30s through 50s who are overwhelmed. They are stay-at-home moms/dads who collected way too many things to manage, professionals whose lack of organizing skills is negatively impacting job performance and advancement, corporate executives and business owners who need to learn better skills to manage their many responsibilities, those who don't make time to keep up with papers and tasks, and so on. In general, clients include young children through seniors. Clients also include those with hoarding, chronic disorganization, attention deficit/hyperativity disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder and other challenges.
Why doesn't everyone do it if it helps to be more successful? Good question! Some think they have no time or money -- but statistics prove that people waste time and money when they're disorganized and actually save time and money by getting organized. Also there are barriers such as procrastination, which prevents action. Others think they'll do it when they "find spare time." If you magically received 24 hours in which you could do anything you wanted, few, if any, would spend that time to get their clutter, paper, time, space and tasks under control. Some have negative beliefs, such as it's hopeless -- I've always been and always will be this way. Others are overwhelmed and don't know how or where to start to create order. Learn from an organizing consultant how to overcome barriers to simplify your life. If you want to become organized, you can! Remember, it's a learned skill.
