PASTOR'S CORNER SUNDAY WORSHIP WHAT'S HAPPENING ABOUT US RESOURCES CHURCH HISTORY
Jesus, our shepherd, is "good," not only because He wishes to lead us to "green pastures and still waters" (Psalm 23), but also because He is willing to die for His sheep (John 10:11).
We, at the First Presbyterian Church, seek to ground our faith in this almighty and loving shepherd who enables us to trust and follow Him, even, or especially, in the midst of painful life experiences.
Like a wandering sheep, people take various excursions in life in a painful quest to find boundless "green pastures and still waters," only to end up feeling stressed, anxious, and lost.
Our creator created us in a way that we can never be satisfied with limited patches of grass or pools of stagnant water. We need to feed on the "living bread" (John 6:51) and drink from the "living water" (John 4:10-11). St. Augustine was right when he said, "Our hearts are restless until they rest in you, O Lord."
As a community of faith, we, at the First Presbyterian Church, don't claim to have all the answers to the complexities of life, but together we strive to follow the lead of our Good Shepherd by discerning His voice so that we may build a community where we bear one another's burdens (Galatians 6:2), affirm our faith, and boldly proclaim the liberating truth of the gospel through what we do and say. The Bible teaches that human beings are like sheep, easily distracted and incapable of self-guidance. As sheep, we all need a good shepherd.
