Chinese-American pianist Shirley Ling has established a wide reputation as a concert performer. She is an artist whose music is both poetic and introspective, sparkling and moving. The New York Times said, "She displayed a wondeful capacity to cultivate patiently her gift for intimately lyrical expression."
Ms. Ling, who is an established performer and a master teacher, was awarded degrees from the Peabody Conservatory and the Philadelphia Musical Academy. Because of her outstanding talent, she was awarded a scholarship to study at Flora MacDonald College in North Carolina and Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. Later studies took place in Chicago where she also studied with Rudolf Ganz, the noted conductor and pianist, and Adele Marcus of Juilliard School in N.Y.
Ms. Ling has toured extensively in the United States and has been invited to perform and conduct master classes in China and in other Asian countries.
Although critics always note her excellent performances of Mozart and Chopin, Ms. Ling's repertoire is extensive and includes works by Bach, Brahms, Gershwin, Gottschalk, Liszt, Ravel, Rachmaninoff, Saint-Saens, Schubert, Schumann and Chinese folk songs which she has arranged.
Shirley Ling's music lifts up the human spirit in a special and unique way. Her musical message is understood and felt by her audience, which returns again and again to savor the joyous wonder of great music played exquisitely.
