"Group Beating Jeopardizes Teen's Eyesight, Dirtbike Career"

Did you ever take a minute to think about just how dirty you really get while you're out there on the track? You spend hours in the hot sun, eating dirt and sweating buckets. Sure, you take your clothes home and wash them, but what about everything else? Those swampy boots? That sticky helmet? The kidney belt you had to peel off? Just because it looks clean-and doesn't make your eyes water when you give it a sniff-doesn't mean it is clean. Much of today's high tech equipment is manufactured to be lighter-meaning its made of open cell foam padding. That's theideal breeding ground for mold, bacteria and just about anything else you really don't want touching your skin: Staphylococcus Aureus, Staphylococcus Epidermidis, Streptococcus Viridans, Streptococcus Faecalis, Enterics, Coliform, yeast, fungus, mold... Seriously-that's disgusting, and its growing in your helmet right now!
The staff here at GHR recently discovered Action Sports Cleaning in South Greensburg. These guys specialize in the thorough cleaning and sanitation of all things sports. Hockey, football, winter/water/moto sports- even your camping gear. Here's their price list for MX:

These prices are alot cheaper than having to replace your gear because it got way too nasty after 3 seasons of never being washed. We're trying to advocate taking care of all that expensive equipment you have-not advertise for Action Sports Cleaning. If you know of another company in the area that does the same good work please let us know. In the mean time, keep it clean!

For two weeks in a row, the races at Latrobe Motosports Speedway had to be called due to rain. After dodging the first round of heavy cloud cover earlier in the evening, it looked like the race just might go on. However, at about 9:30 round two rolled in over the hill and let loose on the track. Everyone crossed their fingers it would pass over, but after about 20 minutes of hard downpour, the second moto was cancelled. Like Mark Lynch says-"Always make your first moto your best!"
If you missed out on all the fun at the track last nite, don't miss out again this afternoon. Hillview Motosports (the old Z&M) on Rt. 30 in Latrobe is putting on a FREE Freestyle Sportbike show today at 11am and 1pm. Last weekend's Freestyle MX show was awesome and featured some great talent including local legend Mad Mike Jones! Keep an eye out for the GHR staff-be the first to mention you heard about the show here and we'll hook you up with one of our new shirts.
In District 5 news, the AMA Spring Series will continue tomorrow at Field of Dreams in Boswell. This historic track has been the host of many Loretta Lynn qualifiers, as well as a nationally televised ATV event in 2007. Located not far off Rt. 30 near Jennerstown, its an easy trip to come out and support your local riders.

No matter how skilled you are, accidents still happen. Keep a basic first aid kit with your gear and you'll be ready for anything (or at least be able to stop the bleeding until the ambulance gets there!). There's a variety of pre-packaged kits available on the market for just about any situation, but it's just as easy-and maybe even cheaper-to piece together your own with these basics:
*Instant Ice Pack- these activate upon impact, so there's no need to take up valuable space in your cooler; joint injuries (knees, shoulder, ankle) are most common & a little ice can go a long way towards curbing pain and swelling.
*Antiseptic wipes and cream- I know more than one MX rider who has a permanent dirt "tattoo" from wounds that weren't properly cleaned right away. Clean out the cut/scrape immediately and apply a topical antiseptic. If you don't need stitches, you'll be good to go for the rest of the day...
*Ace Bandage- Sometimes a light sprain just needs a good sturdy wrap & you can finish that moto with no problem.
*Ibuprofen-This will help cure a headache, as well as prohibit any further swelling from sprains.
*Bandages- This one almost goes without saying. Get a variety-sized pack and you'll have one for everything. "Butterfly Stitches" (heavy duty adhesive strips) can be a huge help in case of deep cuts. These will help hold the cut together and prevent copious bleeding until you can get some serious medical attention.
*Sunscreen-Never underestimate the power of sunburn, which can occur even on snowy, overcast days!
*Bug Spray-Especially helpful if you'll be trail riding. It's easier to prevent a bite than it is to treat it.
*Common Sense-You can never have too much of this! Be safe first and foremost: Will you be trail riding for the day? Let someone know where you're going & how long you expect to be gone. Don't ride alone-bring a friend or ride a track you know will have at least one or two other riders. Challenge yourself, but not the laws of physics. That 180' double? You're not gonna make it on your 50. Don't even try...
