Microsoft Corp. released Windows 7 today with great fanfare. Iron Compass previewed a CTP (community technology preview) edition several months ago and was happy to learn On-Scene Xplorer installed and ran without any problems.
“We have installed the final release of Windows 7 Professional edition on an older Panasonic Toughbook CF-29 that technically does not meet the minimum spec for Windows 7,” said John Fix, president of Iron Compass. “We then installed On-Scene Xplorer 2.6 and it ran great. The only additional setup we did was reload the touch screen driver on the computer. Windows 7 has a nice clean look, and On-Scene Xplorer looks and runs great on the new operating system.”
By the end of November 2009, most Panasonic Toughbook models will be available with Microsoft Windows 7. For more information about On-Scene Xplorer and Windows 7, please contact us.

The Fire Bureau for the Lancaster City (Lancaster County, PA) selected On-Scene Xplorer for its mapping and pre-incident planning software needs. The career department is one of the busiest departments in Pennsylvania and serves a population of over 50,000.
“I spoke to one of the firefighters the other day and he told me the first day On-Scene Xplorer was in the engine they had a call in a somewhat confusing townhouse complex,” said John Fix, President of Iron Compass. “He punched in the address, saw the actual location and drove right there. He said it was a huge help since the call was at night.”
Iron Compass will also assist the department in unitizing the occupancy data from Firehouse in On-Scene Xplorer. “We have a conversion utility in place, but oftentimes when the data was entered, the addresses were not standardized. So we’ll help scrub the data and provide the conversion utility to the department.”

Bordentown Township Fire District No 2 in Bordentown, NJ knew they wanted On-Scene Xplorer in their first out fire apparatus, but did not want to purchase the entire system upfront. Therefore Iron Compass arranged a lease payment option for Bordentown through Panasonic Leasing.
“The Panasonic Leasing option is a great funding vehicle for departments to implement On-Scene Xplorer in the current economy”, comment John Fix, President of Iron Compass. “The department new it would benefit from having On-Scene Xplorer, but did not want to draw down it’s current budget. The lease option was the perfect solution.”
The lease provided for the entire On-Scene Xplorer system, including mounting hardware and installation in the apparatus.
