Happy birthday, Grampian - An open house was held yesterday to mark the 125th anniversary of Grampian's incorporation as a borough in 1885. The town was originally known as Pennville and later became Grampian. During the festivities, a citation from the state House was presented by state Rep. Camille "Bud" George, D-74 of Houtzdale, and a certificate of recognition by James Felmlee, president of the Pennsylvania State Boroughs Association. High school football players raise funds through Mr. Gridiron

By Dianne Byers Staff WriterFor 20 years, young men across Clearfield County have been raising funds to aid the American Cancer Society through the Mr. Gridiron competition. The event matched football players from seven schools against each other off the football field with the goal of raising funds to help ACS.
Nearly $9,000 was raised to help save lives by funding cancer education, research and treatment. Susan Babik, ACS income development specialist, thanked the young men, their families, friends and school districts yesterday, for their participation in the program. By Terry Whetstone Staff WriterFirefighters were busy over the weekend. The first fire occurred at approximately 6:15 a.m. Saturday in Blain City, Beccaria Township, when a flue fire was reported at Veterans of Foreign Wars Richard L. Beers Post No. 7043.
Reports are that the flames were shooting from the flue about three feet into the air when the fire was discovered.
Glendale Fire Department and Irvona Fire Co., along with Glendale Fire Department Quick Response Service and Irvona Ambulance also responded to the scene.
Glendale Fire Chief Jack Laing said firefighters were on scene about 10-15 minutes.

The Lady Warriors defeated District 4 champion Williamson, then toppled North Star two sets to one to advance to the state tournament as the Pool B runner-up on Saturday at State College High School.
Reading Holy Name won the pool, going 3-0 and winning nine sets.
The Lady Warriors got off on the right foot sweeping Williamson, which is also known as the Lady Warriors, in the morning session, 25-9, 25-7 and 25-13.
West Branch jumped out to a 16-3 lead in the first set behind the serve of Bethany Kopchik, who racked up a total of 14 points in the match.
