George Gvozdich, Jr. has been actively engaged in the general practice of law in western Pennsylvania since 1980. His law practice encompasses the representation of local, regional and national concerns. Mr. Gvozdich has significant experience advising clients regarding and handling simple to complex commercial lending transactions, real estate transactions, purchases and sales of business interests, general corporate matters, wills and estates, municipal law matters and general and commercial civil litigation. In connection with his real estate practice, Mr. Gvozdich is an approved attorney for various title insurance companies.
Mr. Gvozdich is a native of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He was admitted to practice before various courts of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania in 1979. He is an alumnus of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, where he graduated with a B.A. in 1975, magna cum laude. In 1979, he received a juris doctor degree from the Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Prior to commencing his career in private practice he served for one year as a law clerk with the Court of Common Pleas of Cambria County, Pennsylvania.
In addition to the general practice of law, Mr. Gvozdich is involved in the legal community holding various positions at the local and state level. Since 1989, he has served as a Bar Examiner for the Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners; a position that involves the writing and grading of one of the essay questions given on the Pennsylvania Bar Examination (Mr. Gvozdich has written essay questions in the areas of sales, secured transactions, commercial paper, corporate law, real estate, professional responsibility and contract law). He has served as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown since 1987, teaching construction management legal issues to junior and senior engineering students. In the past, he has also instructed at St. Francis University in the areas of finance and management. He also currently serves as solicitor to the Cambria County Domestic Relations Office. Mr. Gvozdich has presented continuing legal education programs and was instrumental in the qualifying the Cambria County Bar Association as a certified continuing legal education provider.
Mr. Gvozdich has been a delegate to the Pennsylvania Bar Associations House of Delegates since 1992. In May of 2004 he was elected to serve a three year term on the Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania Bar Association for Zone 8 which he completed in June of 2007. In February of 2005 Mr. Gvozdich was elected to the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation in which he is a Life Fellow and a member of its Commonwealth Club. In June of 2007 Mr. Gvozdich was elected as vice president of the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation and in June of 2008 he was elected as its President. He is also a member of the Cambria County Bar Association where he served as President in 1997-1998. He continues to serve on its Board of Managers and as its secretary. In 2007, he was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Cambria Bar Foundation. He is also a past president of the Cambria County Young Lawyers Association.
Mr. Gvozdich also serves on various boards, both legal and non-legal. He served on the Southern Alleghenies Legal Aide, Inc. board for 13 years and is presently a member of the Laurel Legal Services board where he served as board President in 2005. He also served on the board of directors of the Johnstown Industrial Development Corporation from 1999 through early 2005.
In addition to his professional associations Mr. Gvozdich is involved in the community. He was head varsity of the Richland High School ice hockey team for four years having previously coached the freshman team for three years. He has also coached little league baseball and boys and girls soccer. He has served on the board of the Cambria County Student Hockey League and the Richland Hockey Boosters. He has also served as and officer in both the Kiwanis's and the Rotary in the past.
