Agency History

Spencer Insurance Agency, Inc. was founded in 1963 by Edward F. Spencer when Ed received an appointment from Travelers Insurance Company. One year later Ed met Walter Hauck who also had received an appointment from Travelers. Ed and Walt decided to share staff and office space although their agency ownership was separate. In 1989 Charlie Spencer joined his fathers agency after spending three years with John Hancock as a life insurance producer and sales manager.

In 1994 Charlie purchased the agency from Ed and incorporated the agency as Spencer Insurance Agency, Inc. One year later Charlie purchased Walter Haucks agency and merged his agency into Spencer Insurance Agency, Inc. In 2001 Charlie purchased a small agency owned by William Webster and merged that agency into Spencer Insurance Agency, Inc.

A strong ingredient to our agencys success has been our excellent staff. We have three customer service reps. Joan Schneider is full time and has been with the agency over 25 years. She has received her CISR certification.

Denise Fields is our Sales Customer Service Representative and has been with the agency for over 10 years. Denise also received her CISR certification. In May of 2009 Beth Sedgwick was hired as a CSR. Beth has her property casualty license and is working toward her CISR certification.

Steve Spencer joined our agency in 1994 and is a commercial and personal lines producer. Steve had several years of training with Aetna Insurance Company. Steve has earned a CIC designation.

Charlie, the agency owner also specializes in Life, Disability and Long Term Care Insurance. Charlie has a CLU certification.

Spencer Insurance has been our provider for close to 30 years. They are the most helpful company I have ever dealt with. Whether its a claim or changing our insurance needs the staff has handled it in a professional, knowledgeable, caring, sympathetic way. Something you dont find in this day and age in the business world. If we could only go back in time to when all businesses cared about their clients as Spencer Insurance does.
