Environmental Service Technologies, Inc. is pleased to announce a new Energy Resource Planning/Management service offering to compliment our strong history of proven success in Waste Reduction and Recycling services.

ESTI has partnered with Princeton Energy Systems, Inc. (Princeton Energy), an energy and sustainability consulting, engineering, and project services company, based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Princeton Energy has a ten year tract record in energy management.

Together, ESTI and Princeton Energy will offer the same quality service in energy resource management that ESTI clients have come to expect in the way we approach waste reduction and recycling. Under this partnership our Energy Resource Planning/Management service provides energy efficiency, renewable energy, Energy Service Company (ESCO) management, and energy procurement planning and consulting from an Owners engineer perspective.

As ESTI has assisted hospitals with materials usage and disposal, we now seek to ensure that the substantial environmental benefits of reductions in energy usage are matched by significant and lasting reductions in facility energy costs. Success, in this case, requires not only a thorough understanding of current energy usage patterns but also a compelling, strategic vision for aligning energy objectives with a broader institutional mission. Our newly formed partnership brings deep experience and broad knowledge to turn this vision into action.

Many hospitals struggle to implement strategies that address the environmental and economic impacts of facility waste. Despite their best efforts, each year the average hospital spends $300,000 disposing of 1,500 tons of trash and, nationally, hospitals send three million tons of waste to landfills! The American Hospital Association and Environmental Protection Agency formed a partnership called Hospitals for a Healthy Environment (H2E), inviting and supporting hospital partners to achieve 50% waste reductions by 2010. While every hospital is motivated to meet these goals, the challenge is how to implement a plan or even know where to begin.

Environmental Service Technologies Inc. (ESTI) provides technical support for hospitals to achieve significant economic and environmental savings through waste minimization, creating a sustainable Greenculture. ESTI program success has been proven at hospitals in southeast Pennsylvania and New Jersey. We know the challenges of trying to work in this complex environment we were in your position.

Among these complexities is the trouble of funding such an effort. Though implementation of waste minimization programs invariably leads to down stream savings, the initial costs can be prohibitive. ESTI has the solution that allows you to pay these costs when you realize actual savings.

The typical program is divided into the following phases:
1. Waste Stream Audit ESTI audits waste content, internal collection and disposal services for: Regulated Medical Waste; HIPAA and Municipal Waste streams as well as material recycling for safety, regulatory compliance, material mix, volume and disposal cost. ESTI analyzes hauler-agreements; recycle markets and disposal processes including receptacle safety, capacity and placement, collection schedules and staffing as well as on-site storage capacity.
2.Waste Stream Redesign ESTI assists clients to implement best practices for waste minimization and recycling essential to success is working with hospital staff to imbed the necessary culture so savings are sustained over time.
3. Green Team Establish and facilitate monthly meetings of multi-disciplinary team focused on waste minimization and recycling.
4.Training for clinical, support and administrative staff as well as physicians is repeated throughout the program on each shift to achieve desired results. New employee orientation is provided as well. Initial and remedial training insures success.
5.Monitor Baseline, target and actual performance for each waste and recycle stream.

In recognition of our constant dedication to our work, ESTI was chosen as the lead consultant for an EPA grant project between the Health Care Improvement Foundation and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. As part of this project, ESTI has been working with twenty hospitals in the Green Hospital Pilot Project to develop best practices for waste minimization.
