My name is Warren A. Jacobs. I am an ISA Certified Arborist and I own a tree care company in Montgomery County, PA called Jacobs Tree Surgery Inc.
The purpose of this website is education. As a conscientious arborist with much experience-tested education, I have a duty to share knowledge with others, particularly clients and potential clients and this is what I intend to do here with this website. I will attempt to dispel some of the common myths that relate to tree biology. I will explain the science behind how current procedures evolved, and why some old methods are no longer practiced. And I will attempt to use up-to-date scientific information to help the tree-owner to sort out the tree care sales pitches and determine what treatments are truly beneficial to the tree, and which are primarily beneficial to the provider's bottom line.
I am writing this in February 2008. This is a new website at this time, and it probably doesn't look too comprehensive. My intention is to gradually incorporate information and photos I've gathered over the last three decades, as well as new information as it becomes available. I'll try to cover most of the important topics - such as tree planting and the problems associated with modern nursery stock production and installation procedures (that's a big one), how trees respond to injury (and pruning cuts are injuries!). I'll discuss controversial topics - such as tree (and lawn) spraying, fertilization treatments, and chemical injection of trees. And I'll continue to add links to credible, non-biased sources of information.
This IS a commercial website, and I do make my living providing tree care services. I think I'm pretty good at what I do, but I'm not good at writing self-promoting copy. So, for now, the promotional part of this site will be this link: Testimonials (from clients). I'll let other people provide the "hype."
