Sadly, for many of us, this time of year means we must prepare to close our ponds for the winter. If you have not already done so, it is important to begin feeding your fish a wheatgerm based food that is specially formulated for cooler temperatures. We recommend Tetra Koi Excellence Wheatgerm. It is also a good idea to treat you pond with products like Microbe-Lift's Autumn/Winter Prep to help breakdown any remaining sediment in the pond.
Many of our customers have purchased pond deicers to help prevent potentially lethal gas buildups under the ice, caused by decomposing debris in the pond. This is something you should consider purchasing, especially if you do not have a constant source of aeration in your pond (which is NOT recommended). Here is a PondMaster Floating Pond De-Icer.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions about preparing your pond for winter, any other concerns, or if you would like to schedule a pond closing. We are available at 484-560-4363. As always, if you need any pond care products, they are available 24/7 through our online store -- please visit www.northeastponds.com.

Northeast Koi and Pond takes pride in being the most complete koi and pond business in the Lehigh Valley. We specialize in new pond construction and pond renovations and are committed to excellence and customer satisfaction.
Northeast Koi specializes in building affordable, low-maintenance koi ponds, using the correct components necessary (i.e. filters, pumps, UV's) to maintain a crystal clear and healthy pond. We also help many customers design ponds that they can build themselves, with our team of experts behind them every step of the way - something you will not get from local landscapers or online merchandisers.
We also recognize that there are a lot of landscaping businesses in the area that install ponds/water features; however, these companies are building "water gardens," NOT koi ponds. As you consider building a koi pond, please remember that koi require proper filtration and care that can not be achieved with a "water garden" setup.
