First Position Dance Arts has been serving the Main Line and Delaware County for 20 years! FPDA is a multi-faceted family friendly dance center that specializes in preparing boys and girls for performances in Creative Dance, Ballet, Pointe, Hip-Hop, Jazz Funk, Modern/Jazz and Rhythm Funk Tap. Children trained in performance qualities are more adept in social situations, school presentations and leadership roles. We are not in the business of primarily building dancers, we build people.
Fairies float at First Position. Warriors battle. Gazelles leap. Skeptical? You and your children can experience first-hand what study after study has shown: creative movement flows through the body and transforms the mind. In this safe haven kids dance like no one is watching. Then they hone their skills so they can fly!
First Position Dance Arts has changed the lives of countless students. Shy tweens have found confidence leaping with the liquid grace of gazelles in front of audiences of 10,000+ at the Wachovia Center. Finding within them the force and finesse of martial artists, preteen and teen boys and girls have gathered to outwit and out-dance each other using hip-hop endurance, rhythm and humor. Small children have found lasting friendships while running and jumping together in make-believe ponds, giant woods and mysterious castles.
Solid benefits from dancing at First Position flow out into the students everyday lives. Performing in front of audiences gives a person the guts to give a speech. Students become agile and flexible as they learn the newest street moves; this increased strength not only helps prevent injuries but also gives the team sport player an athletic edge. The original thoughts and independence that come from creative movement class help little ones try other new things-maybe even veggies.
For students who want to perform, First Position offers ample opportunities to shine. Their in-house dance companies have entertained huge audiences with their dazzling talent and style at venues like the Mann Music Center, 76ers Halftime, Philadelphia Aids Walk, Hershey Park, Philadelphia Fringe Festival, Globe Trotters; Halftime and the Autism Walk at the Philadelphia Zoo. A full-time dance company manager is always lining up new performance opportunities for the dance companies and team.
