As many frequent visitors to this site already know, a debt buyer is an entity that purchases charged-off consumer debt in the secondary debt market. Often, debt buyers purchase old, uncollectable credit card debt for pennies on the dollar and then try to collect the debt's face value.

It seems as if repossession stories are everywhere these days. There are cable shows about the tactics of North Jersey repo men... and real life stories about folks who lose it when their cars are taken over their objections, like this Cape May County incident.

Some collections agencies and junk debt buyers have been obtaining arrest warrants against debtors.
