Electrical Occupations is a program which prepares students for electrical careers in both industry and construction. Electrical wiring systems in houses and commercial buildings are assembled, installed, and maintained by electricians. Electricians generally specialize in either construction or industrial maintenance although some do both. Construction electricians lay out, assemble, install, and test electrical fixtures and wiring used in the electrical systems of construction sites. Maintenance electricians maintain and keep many different types of electrical equipment in good working order principally by detecting and repairing defective equipment before a breakdown occurs.
Students will become skilled in electrical theory, direct current circuits, alternating current circuitry, residential wiring, transformers, and motor control.
After successfully completing two years of course work, the third year student may be eligible to take part in the school's Cooperative Education Program. These students will gain valuable on-the-job experience in local industry or construction sites while being paid.
