Joseph R. Noga FD. original founder of Noga Funeral Home, was born in Warsaw, Poland where he taught six languages in a Franciscan Monastery. Joseph was an accomplished concert pianist, graduating from the Conservatory of Music in Warsaw. At the turn of the 20th century, Joseph moved to the United States from Poland, working as a piano tuner. It is through his musical talents that Joseph became interested in becoming a funeral director.
One of his clients, Rusiewicz Funeral Home, needed part-time help and Joseph found that he enjoyed the work and acted as a translator to many of the funeral home's European clients. In 1920, Joseph decided to venture out on his own when he purchased a house in New Castle and transformed it into a working funeral home. Noga Funeral Home was founded at its original location on Long Avenue where its business flourished.
In 1939, Joseph was joined at the funeral home by his son's, John J. Noga FD. and Frank Edward Noga FD. Joseph, John and Frank, decided that the business was outgrowing the Long Avenue facility, and purchased a home at the current location of Noga Funeral Home on South Mill Street. Joseph and John remodeled and expanded the home in 1946 and '47, opening the doors to the new facility early in 1948.
The family tradition has continued at Noga Funeral Home. John's son, J Russell Noga FD had two sons, Joseph M Noga FD. who is now an doctor, and Russell S Noga FD. who is his current partner. They are third and fourth generation funeral directors and now own and operate Noga Funeral Home. John is still active in the daily business and still enjoys greeting families after 72 years of service. Noga Funeral Home has maintained its rich tradition of serving families in their time of need.
Noga Funeral Home has acted as a pillar of the New Castle Community, serving families of all faiths and backgrounds. We thank you for your interest in Noga Funeral Home and pledge to continue our business with the same drive as our founder and grandfather, Joseph R. Noga FD.
