The Courtyard Counseling Center is a psychotherapy practice providing a full complement of psychological services to clients in the Central Pennsylvania area. Founded in 1986 by Dr. Tony Butto, the clinic is the largest private psychotherapy practice in the region. The center draws clients from the central Pennsylvania area from as far north as Williamsport and from the south to Harrisburg. Our clients also come from the west as far as Lewistown and from the east, the Bloomsburg – Berwick areas. We receive many referrals from many sources including other professionals, such as physicians, clergy, guidance counselors, and the Courts. But by far, our most important referral source is satisfied clients who refer their family and friends.
The clinic resides in the Courtyard Office Building, an attractive office condominium. When it was constructed, the Courtyard Office Building was the only professional office condominium within four counties. It is home to various other professional services and this helps assure your privacy since people enter here for many reasons, not just counseling. Our offices are comfortable and spacious, helping clients feel at ease. Couples and children especially find the environment relaxing as it more resembles a home environment than an office.
Today, the Courtyard Counseling Center employs five licensed therapists, two at the doctoral degree level and three at the masters’ degree level. Our hours are conveniently arranged so that evening and weekend appointments are available with all of our therapists. Although we accept most insurance plans, not every therapist accepts every plan. Many clients chose to pay privately because they either don’t want to use their insurance or because they desire a specific therapist who is not a provider for their insurance plan. Perspective clients should call to inquire about their particular plan.
Our therapists’ areas of specialization allow us to address a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties. We see clients ranging in age from toddlers to the very old. We see individuals, couples and families. Several of us consult to businesses, schools, universities, law firms and the local Courts. Therapist Leanne Gover has a sub-specialty in substance abuse and women’s issues in addition to her general practice. Therapist Carolynn Harrison has specialties in women and children issues and marital problems. Drs. Jacobson and Butto, in addition to their general practice, are certified as expert Court witnesses in Snyder, Union, Northumberland, Montour and Columbia counties. They offer their expertise in areas of child custody, family problems and on occasion, criminal cases. Both Drs. Butto and Jacobson have appeared on radio talk shows discussing family and relationship issues. Dr. Butto also writes topical and psychotherapy articles for the local press. Dr. Jacobson performs psychological evaluations for law enforcement agencies and to help clients prepare for various medical procedures. Dr. Butto’s practice specialty is marriage and family therapy and he is a clinical member and supervisor for the American Association for Marriage and Family therapy.
